Savri vs Matomo
Last updated: July 7, 2026 · We build Savri, so expect bias. Every row in the table can be verified.
Matomo is an open source tool you can host yourself: powerful and with full data control, but it requires maintenance and configuration. Savri is a ready-made cloud service: cookieless by default, a script under 1 KB (Matomo’s weighs around 22 KB) and set up in five minutes. Which one fits depends on how much you want to run yourself.

What is Matomo?
Matomo, formerly Piwik, is the world’s most widely used open source web analytics platform. Its strength is control: self-hosted, your data never leaves your servers, and the feature set approaches Google Analytics with heatmaps, session recordings and A/B testing as add-ons.
Self-hosted or cloud?
Self-hosted Matomo requires PHP, MySQL, updates, backups and performance tuning as traffic grows. It is a long-term operations commitment, not a one-off install.
Matomo Cloud removes the maintenance but costs from around €20 per month, more than most cookieless lightweights, and the tracking script still weighs around 22 KB.
When is Matomo the right choice?
Matomo is the obvious choice when:
- Your data must never leave your own servers, for example in government, healthcare or banking.
- You need heatmaps, session recordings or A/B testing in the same platform.
- You have the technical capacity to maintain the setup long term.
When is Savri the better fit?
- You want zero maintenance, updates and configuration.
- You want to be cookieless without configuring anything, and skip the consent banner.
- You want to ask an AI about your statistics via MCP instead of building reports.
- You are an agency and want all client sites in one view with site groups.
Frequently asked questions
Is Matomo free?
Self-hosted, Matomo is free to download, but you pay with server costs, updates and your own time. The cloud version costs from around €20 per month, and premium features like heatmaps cost extra even self-hosted.
Does Matomo need a cookie banner?
In its default mode yes, Matomo uses cookies. There is a cookieless mode, but it must be actively configured and makes some statistics less precise. Savri is cookieless from the start.
Matomo or Google Analytics?
Matomo if you want to own your data, GA4 if you want free with deep Google Ads integration. If your main goal is skipping the banner and the hassle, a cookieless lightweight tool is simpler than both.
Can I run Savri in parallel with Matomo?
Yes, the scripts do not interfere with each other. Running both for a few weeks is the easiest way to compare numbers before deciding.
How big are the tracking scripts?
Matomo’s script weighs around 22 KB, Savri’s under 1 KB. That affects page load time and Core Web Vitals, especially on mobile.
