Metrics explained

Understand what the numbers in your dashboard mean and how you can use them to improve your site.

Visitors (Unique)

The number of unique people who visited your site during the selected time period.

  • A visitor is counted only once per day, regardless of how many pages they visit.
  • We identify visitors via an anonymous hash of IP address + browser + date.
  • No personal information is stored and the hash cannot be traced back to the individual.

Tip: Focus on increasing unique visitors through SEO, social media and advertising.

Pageviews

Total number of pages loaded on your site.

  • Each time a page loads counts as a pageview.
  • If the same visitor loads 5 pages = 1 visitor, 5 pageviews.
  • High pageviews/visitors ratio indicates engaging content.

Tip: A good ratio is 2-4 pageviews per visitor. Low value may indicate visitors aren't finding what they're looking for.

Bounce rate

The percentage of visitors who leave after viewing only one page.

  • Bounce rate = (Sessions with 1 pageview / Total sessions) × 100%
  • A high bounce rate isn't always bad - e.g., if the visitor found the answer immediately.
  • For blogs 70-90% is normal, for e-commerce it should be under 40%.
Excellent: < 30%Good: 30-50%Normal: 50-70%High: > 70%

Tip: Improve bounce rate with clear call-to-actions, faster load times and relevant content.

Session

A continuous period when a visitor interacts with your site.

  • A session begins when the visitor lands on the site.
  • The session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity or at midnight.
  • A visitor can have multiple sessions during the same day.

Tip: Long sessions with many pageviews indicate engaging content.

Trend

Percentage change compared to the previous period.

  • Compares current period's visitors with the same length period before.
  • Green arrow up = more visitors than last period.
  • Red arrow down = fewer visitors than last period.

Tip: Look at the trend over time to see if your efforts are paying off.

Devices

Distribution between desktop, mobile and tablet.

  • Based on screen size: Mobile < 768px, Tablet 768-1024px, Desktop > 1024px.
  • No fingerprinting or tracking - only viewport width is used.

Tip: If the majority visits via mobile, make sure the site is mobile-optimized.

Countries

Geographic distribution of your visitors.

  • Based on IP address geographic location (country level).
  • No exact position is stored - only country.
  • Uses Vercel's built-in geo-data for minimal overhead.

Tip: Adapt content and language based on where your visitors come from.
